wilson vs poly

The Wilson High girls soccer team dominated possession as the Bruins won 2-0 over Poly in a Moore League contest at Veterans Stadium on Thursday.

“We were very prepared for this game,” Wilson coach Dalton Kaufman said. “We are very familiar with Poly, and we know that the first 15-20 minutes are going to be very emotional. I thought we weathered those emotions real well.”

The Bruins (5-3-1, 1-0-1) had the ball in Jackrabbits territory for most of the first half, but had multiple shots that were wide or hit off the goalpost.

Wilson finally got on the scoreboard in the 33rd minute when senior Madison Delrosario scored on a header from the right corner of the goalie box. Delrosario headed the ball into the net and the proceeded to fall into the net.

“That’s just the emotions of a rivalry game,” Kaufman said. “The girls get overexcited and sometimes rush their shots and sometimes start celebrating before the shots go in.”

Wilson came out of halftime with momentum and kept applying pressure on the offensive end. In the 57th minute, Wilson senior Cheyenne Tucker fought off a Jackrabbits defender and sailed the ball into the left corner of the net to extend the Bruins’ lead.

“We are a team on a mission this year,” Kaufman said. “This team is on a mission right now to win league again.”

Goalkeeper Caris White had four saves for Poly (2-6-1, 1-2).
