HIGH SCHOOL

Chastity Ah-Hong, Long Beach Poly Volleyball

Senior Chastity Ah-Hong powered Poly to a pair of state playoff wins last week, with 11 kills in the first round and 14 kills in the second round. It was her best week of volleyball this season, helping her team to the state regional semifinals.

Will Frankenfeld, Long Beach Poly Cross Country

Junior Will Frankenfeld finished 13th at the CIF Southern Section Division 1 cross country championships, with a time of 14:55. He led Poly to a state berth, the team’s first since 2014.

COLLEGE

Cedric Byrd, LBCC Football

Sophomore Cedric Byrd once again led LBCC to a win with some flashy moves on Saturday, as they topped Bakersfield in the Patriotic Bowl. Byrd had nine catches for 161 yards and two touchdowns, plus another 58 return yards for a total yardage of 219.

Hailey Harward, LBSU Volleyball

Sophomore Hailey Harward led the 49ers with 15 kills on a career-best .438 hitting in a 3-1 win over CSUN Saturday. Harward also had two aces, eight digs and three solo roofs on the night.

Sports Guy Mike Guardabascio has been writing professionally for a decade, with his work published in dozens of Southern California magazines and newspapers. He's won numerous awards and is the author of the historical book "Football in Long Beach."
