A two-vehicle crash in Long Beach on Monday night killed a pedestrian who was in a crosswalk, and two people in the vehicles were taken to a hospital.
The crash occurred about 6:40 p.m. near the intersection of Santa Fe Avenue and Hill Street, said Long Beach Fire Department Public Information Officer Jack Crabtree.
A pedestrian, who was approximately in her 30s, died at the scene, Crabtree said.
Two people inside the vehicles, a minivan and a Lexus sedan, were taken to a hospital, and one, a man in his late 20s or early 30s, was in critical condition, according to Crabtree and Lt. Robert Bernsen of the Long Beach Police Department.
It was not immediately clear how the pedestrian was struck.
“That’s what we’re trying to figure out. She was in the crosswalk when the accident occurred,” Bernsen told City News Service. “We’re trying to figure out if someone ran a red light.”
Authorities encouraged anyone with information about the crash to contact Detective Allen Duncan at 562-570-7355.
