Long Beach Turns On The Romance For Valentine’s Day

    Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14) is fast approaching and to help make your plans for that special someone, the Gazette offers this rundown of ways to celebrate.

    Krispy Kreme shops are offering iced, drizzled and sprinkled heart-shaped treats through Feb. 14.

    Gondola Getaway is offering special packages Feb. 10-14 including a rose, chocolate strawberries, a keepsake photo and a cruise through the canals of Naples. Prices start at $120 per couple. Call 433-9595 or visit

    The Seaport Marina Valentine’s Day Experience also runs Feb. 10-14. Their packages start at $188.48 per couple and combine hotel accommodations with the Gondola Getaway trips. For reservations, call 240-8469.

    For Valentine’s Day, the Factory has 100 Years of Port Valentine’s Day Menu Feb. 10-14. The special menu is $50 for six courses plus an additional $35 for the wine pairings. Reservations are suggested: 595-4020. The Factory is at 4020 Atlantic Ave.

    Kitchen Outfitters in Naples has something for adults and children from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. For adults, they’ll have a wine tasting with a Chocolate Port and two red wines. At the same time, children can decorate cookies. There’s a $10 charge for the cookie decorating and reservations are needed. Call 233-7829. For something different on Valentine’s Day, Kitchen Outfitters has a “Lovers in Naples” cooking class, including Herbed Cornish Hens, special dessert and wine pairings, all for $60.     Boney James, Norman Brown and Gerald Albright will present A Valentine’s Day concert of romantic jazz beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Terrace Theater, 300 E.     A “Valentine Soiree” to benefit the Long Beach Chorale and Chamber Orchestra begins at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 in a private Naples Island home. Broadway performer Kevin Wood will perform and there will be food and wine. Tickets are $40. 427-1931,

    A Dia de San Valentin dinner will be served Feb. 11 through 14 at Alegria Cocina Latina, 115 Pine Ave. The dinner has a main course of grilled filet mignon in a blackberry port wine reduction paired with a prawn with a sweet bell pepper Tequila chipotle cream sauce.     Fuego at Hotel Maya gets an early start with a Sweetheart Brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. Brunch is $45 per adult and $22 for children. On Valentine’s Day, they’ll serve a special four-course dinner with entrée choices that include Prime Tenderloin of Beef, Champagne Poached Halibut, Spiced Loin of Lamb or Grilled Vegetable Terrine.     Café Sevilla’s Valentine’s meal will be available Sunday through Tuesday. It’s $49 or $59 depending on the time and the day and features entrée choices of Beef Tenderloin with Shrimp or Paella San Valentine. They’ll also have live entertainment each night.     A pizza party is the prize in a children’s contest to make Valentines for the animals at the Long Beach Animal Care Services Shelter. Children grades K-12 can enter the contest. Adults may enter too, but are not eligible for prizes. Folded cards should not be larger and 5X7 and judging will take into consideration the grade level of the student, creativity, originality and first impression. Cards should be sent to Long Beach Animal Care Services, 7700 E. Spring St., before noon Sunday, Feb. 12.

    Winners will be announced at the Yappy Hour celebration from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at animal care services. Yappy hour will be hosted by Westerly School. Their students will serve punch and homemade cookies. For more information, visit

    “The Art of Love” by Gregorio Luke, a lecture that explores “the intimate connection between sex, eroticism, and love,” returns to the Long Beach Playhouse at 8 p.m. on Valentine’s Day.     The “Sweatheart Dinner” at Buster’s Beach House and Longboard Bar is a four-course meal for $49.95 per person, which offers entrée choices of Prime Rib, Crab Stuffed Shrimp or Farfalle Con Pollo.     L’Opera’s chef’s special meal is four courses with entrée choices of Grilled T-Bone over potatoes and asparagus or Pan seared sturgeon over snow peas, carrots and white polenta and a dessert with three of the restaurants mini-desserts: Cestino, Tartina and Tiramisu.     Parkers’ Lighthouse has prix-fix dinners in both its Main Dining room and the Queensview Steakhouse. In the main room, ($60), the menu includes entrée selections of Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi, Filet, Main Lobster Tail, pan roasted Chicken, Crab and Shrimp Encrusted Salmon and Miso-Mirin Glazed Chilean Seal Bass. The meal in the steakhouse has entrée choices of Filet Mignon, Lobster Tail, “Simply Filet,” scallops and Oven Roasted Scottish Salmon. It’s $85 per person.     The Sky Room has live music and two Valentine’s Day seatings (5:30-7:30 p.m. and 8:30-10:30 p.m.). The meal starts with oysters and offers entrée choices of Prime Filet, Salmon or Lamb Loin, a box of chocolates, a long-stemmed rose and glass of Champagne. It’s $119 per person in advance.
