Wilson girls water polo played its second nonleague game in as many days and fell to Los Alamitos 17-1 on Friday at Belmont Pool.

Los Alamitos senior Bayley Weber, who played in an exhibition with the USA Women’s Water Polo National Team at UC Irvine on Thursday, led the Griffins with a game-high eight goals.

“I was really happy with our intensity from beginning to end,” Los Alamitos coach Dave Carlson said.

Los Alamitos (7-1) is ranked No. 5 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 and 2 combined poll.

Wilson (5-5) didn’t score until the second half when Carolina Newton took advantage of an exclusion, but the Bruins defense showed fight in the first quarter. Wilson beat Rosary in a close game on Thursday, and first-year coach Barry O’Dea said he won’t schedule Los Alamitos like that again.

“That’s a team that we need to have a practice to get ready for,” O’Dea said. “That was a rough one for us.”

Wilson is ranked No. 3 in Division 3. Goalkeeper Camryn Krueger had a handful of saves.

“We’ve only got one senior, we’re getting good experience, and we’re building towards our own goals for (the playoffs) in February,” O’Dea said.
