No. 43 Long Beach State held off a late rally from San Diego State to win 4-3 Friday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center.

The 49ers were able to get the sweep in doubles, earning a critical point against SDSU (3-2, 0-0 Mountain West). Klaudia Malenovska and Sarah Cantlay got things going for LBSU, earning an 8-3 win over Julia Wais and Alicia Aguilar. Ebba Unden and Karolina Rozenberg then beat Laura Iriarte and Tami Nguyen 8-2 as Anne-Sophie Willems and Hazuki Onaga held on to win 8-7 over Kristin Buth and Michaela Casanova.

In singles play, freshman Anne-Sophie Willems won her third straight match since stepping into the No. 6 spot for the 49ers, beating Michaela Casanova 6-4, 6-1. With LBSU up 2-0, the Aztecs gained their first point as Laura Iriarte defeated Sarah Cantlay 6-3, 7-6 (4). Ebba Unden won LBSU's third point with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Alicia Aguilar at the No. 2 spot, but the Aztecs rallied, winning the next two matches at the No. 4 and 5 spots to tie the match up at 3 all. As it came down to the final match at the No. 1 spot, Klaudia Malenovska came through the 49ers with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Julia Wais.

The win improves Long Beach State to 5-1 on the season and makes it eight straight against San Diego State. The 49ers are back in action Saturday against Big West conference foe, No. 65 Hawai'i. The match will begin at 11 a.m. at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
