Long Beach State junior Chaewon Park recorded a 5-over par 77 in Monday's U.S. Women's Amateur Sectional Qualifying at the Glendora Country Club.
"I feel very lucky and thankful," Park said. "I've been really working hard this summer and it seems things are starting to come together. It's very rewarding to qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship and I'm looking forward to playing in Charleston."
Park was among 14 players from the Glendora sectional to advance to the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, Aug. 5-11, at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.
Limping her way throughout the 18-hole round at the par-72, 6,443 yard course, the Torrance native was one of seven players to go into a playoff to clinch three spots for the championship. Park birdied the par-4 10th hole to claim the first spot and was the only player to record a birdie during the playoff.
Park continues her stellar play during the summer season as she advanced to the round of 32 at the 37th U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship in Norman, Okla. last month.
