Welcome back to By the Books, where we break down how all the local teams are doing in the CIF and national rankings.

After not getting any love in the CIF rankings to start the season, the Moore League’s two traditional powers showed up in this week’s poll. Wilson and Lakewood both had strong runs in the Loara Tournament last week, as we were just one Lancers victory away from an all-Moore League championship. This week Wilson is No. 9 and Lakewood is No. 10 in Division 1.

Lakewood and Millikan started the year ranked in the top three in CIF Division 2, but fell out shortly after and have not recovered, as there is currently no Moore League representation in the rankings. St. Anthony is listed as receiving votes in Division 6, just outside the top ten.

Boys’ Volleyball

Long Beach Poly is the only local team to crack the rankings, coming in at No. 9 in Division 2 after a strong week. They swept Mater Dei on Saturday to solidify their spot in the rankings.

LBSU Volleyball

No change in the rankings for the 49ers, who are No. 2 in the nation for the second week in a row. They’re getting three of the 16 first-place votes, and if they can hold this position, will continue to look good as at least an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, even if they don’t automatically qualify. They have a pair of critical road matches against No. 4 Pepperdine and No. 7 USC this week.
