A speed boat driver who was critically injured during a race at Marine Stadium in Long Beach more than a week ago has died, his family said.

Gregory Paul Duff, 36, died Wednesday afternoon, his sister, Carrie Duff, said in a Facebook post.

Duff was seriously injured at the Sprint Nationals Boat Races in Alamitos Bay the morning of Aug. 5, when another boat went airborne on a turn and crashed into his. The boats were traveling at speeds of 100 miles per hour, according to race director Ross Wallach.

Tributes to Duff, a Newport Beach resident, poured in from loved ones and members of the racing community on social media. By Thursday evening, a GoFundMe page raised $37,800 for his family.
