A new exercise group will launch with the new year in Belmont Shore.

Called WOW (Walk On Wednesday), the group is patterned after the popular Bixby Knolls Strollers, which walks that business district every Saturday. Founder Jim Worsham said he is receiving support from the Belmont Shore Business Association and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at California State University, Long Beach.

Walkers will meet at 7:15 a.m. each Wednesday, starting on Jan. 4, in front of the Chase Bank at 5200 E. Second St. (the corner of Second Street and Corona Avenue). The walk will start at 7:30 and take a different route each week.

Worsham said there is no charge or signup (although he is looking for organizational help), and there are plenty of nearby coffee shops to help recover from the walk. Metered parking is free until 10 a.m., and friendly dogs are welcomed.
