An 18-year-old Long Beach man was sentenced to eight years in county jail on Wednesday, Aug. 3, for several forcible thefts and assaults.

Steven Flint rode his bicycle toward victims and forcibly took their cellphones from their hands at least nine times, a release from the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s office said.

Flint admitted the thefts to police and said he targeted victims he thought weren’t paying attention. Police were able to find nine female victims, who were targeted in central and downtown Long Beach, often at bus stops and crosswalks. Flint also told officers he committed other thefts, but those victims haven’t been found.

One of Flint’s family members reportedly said he stole the phones to buy drugs, but no drug charges were filed in this case.

Anyone with information on the phone thefts can contact Long Beach police detective Benjamin Vargas at (562) 570-5538.
