Long Beach City College has added several management positions in executive and academic oversight, Superintendent-President Reagan Romali announced last week.
The new dean of career and technical education is Gene Carbonaro, who was appointed in December. He's been at LBCC for 35 years in various staff and faculty roles, most recently as department head of computer and office studies. He's an LBCC graduate with a business education master's degree from California State University, Los Angeles.
Joshua Castellanos has the newly-created position of executive director of public affairs and marketing. He began on Jan. 2, overseeing strategic communications, marketing and expanded outreach efforts for LBCC. Previously, he was president/CEO of the Greater Lakewood Chamber of Commerce. The California State University, Dominguez Hills, graduate also completed the Goldman-Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program at LBCC. Additionally, he's on the Business Advisory Council for South East Los Angeles Workforce Development Board (SELACO WDB).
On Jan. 16, Corey Rodgers began his role as executive dean of enrollment services. He's been dean of enrollment management and evening operations at Los Angeles Harbor College since 2014, and had other leadership roles at Los Angeles City College and Barstow College. He graduated from the University of California, Irvine and earned his master's from Claremont Graduate University.
The new dean of institutional effectiveness is Dr. Heather Van Volkinburg, who will start on Jan. 22. She is dean of the office of institutional effectiveness at Southern California University of Health Sciences and a Columbia University graduate.
