Two scientists specializing in sea level rise will speak Oct. 7 at the Aquarium of the Pacific about expected impacts at Belmont Shore and the Peninsula.

The free forum is cosponsored by The Nature Conservancy. Two French experts, Dr. Sylvain Barone and Dr. Laura Michel, will be joined by Dr. Gary Griggs, a distinguished professor at UC Santa Cruz. Dr. Barone is a researcher at France's Public Policy National Research Institute and Dr. Michel is a professor at the University of Montpellier.

Dr. Jerry Schubel, president and CEO of the aquarium, said the French scientists are experts in coping with sea level rise in France, and will apply that knowledge to the Peninsula and Belmont Shore.

The event will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, in the Ocean Theater at the aquarium. To reserve a seat, call aquarium Guest Services at 562-590-3100, ext. 0.
