A cultural graduation for Polynesian students at Cal State Long Beach will cap Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month there.

This will be the 28th annual luau hosted by the Pacific Islander Student Association, and the cultural graduation takes place in conjunction with that event. The party will be from 7 to 9 p.m. this Saturday at the USU Ballrooms. 

This is the first of eight cultural graduations at Cal State Long Beach to celebrate minority graduates before the official commencement May 21-24.

The other seven cultural events all happen the week before graduation. They are:

  • PILIPINO - The Pilipino cultural celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the USU Ballrooms.
  • VIETNAMESE - The Vietnamese cultural celebration, from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the USU Ballrooms.
  • AFRICAN AMERICAN - The African American cultural celebration, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Walter Pyramid.
  • CAMBODIAN - The Cambodian cultural celebration, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the USU Ballrooms.
  • AMERICAN INDIAN - The American Indian cultural celebration, from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the USU Ballrooms.
  • CHICANO LATINO - The Chicano Latino cultural celebration, from 10 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 19 (location TBA).
  • LAVENDER (LGBTQ) - The celebration, from 6 to 8p.m. Monday, May 20, at the USU Ballrooms.
