LBUSD Registration Starts Long Beach School Year

  • 2 min to read

Long Beach Unified School District's (LBUSD) 2017-2018 school year starts on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Start the school year off with all requirement boxes checked.

Registration

Most school offices will open on Tuesday, Aug. 22, opening school registration for students. Parents can reach out to their neighborhood school to register their youngsters.

In order to register, all students must claim residency in Long Beach. Parents must present two of the following forms of resident identification: property tax receipt, rental property contract or lease, utility statement, pay stub, voter registration or government-mailed letter.

Proof of the student's age also is required. A birth certificate, passport or affidavit from a parent or guardian will be accepted.

For an enrollment checklist, go to lbschools.net/Asset/Files/District/Registration_Enrollment.pdf.

Immunizations

Proof of immunization is required for all LBUSD students. Parents of insured students should contact their medical provider for immunizations prior to enrollment.

Parents of uninsured students should contact the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services, 2525 Grand Ave., by calling (562) 570-4315 to schedule an appointment.

For specific vaccination requirements, go to lbschools.net/Asset/files/District/Immunizations.pdf.

Transitional Kindergarten, Early Transitional Kindergarten

To register for kindergarten, all eligible students must be 5 years old prior to Sep. 1, 2017. For students who do not meet the age requirement, options for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Early Transitional Kindergarten (ETK) are available.

TK is an optional pre-kindergarten course intended for youngsters who turn 5 years old in the fall (between Sep. 1 and Dec. 1, 2017), rendering them too young to enroll in kindergarten. Parents have the option to enroll their children for TK, or wait another year to enroll them in kindergarten.

If students are not eligible for TK, the option to enroll children for ETK is available to youngsters who will turn 5 years old between Dec. 3, 2017, and June 14, 2018.

For more information, or to register students for TK or ETK, call (562) 997-8087.

Free, Reduced Price Meals

Households that qualify may register their children for free or reduced price meals through the school district.
