A roommate dispute ended in murder Sunday night.

The Long Beach Police Department was called at 8:41 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30, to the 3100 block of Easy Avenue. There, officers found a male adult who had been shot in the upper torso — paramedics transported him to a local hospital, but he died shortly thereafter.

Investigators said they believe the victim and 36-year-old Benjamin Elpuz of Long Beach were roommates — that the two were arguing that night and that it escalated into Elpuz shooting the victim.

The night of the shooting, officers were led to the 6800 block of Myrtle Avenue. Officials said they contained the area, contacted Elpuz and at 11:27 p.m. they arrested him.

Elpuz has been booked for murder at the Long Beach City Jail and he is being held on $1 million bail. Anyone with information on the incident can call LBPD Homicide detectives Malcolm Evans and Todd Johnson at 570-7244. Anonymous tips can be left through www.tipsoft.com
