A shooting late Tuesday on Cherry Avenue near Pacific Coast Highway has left one woman dead.

Police were called to the 1600 block of Cherry at about 11:40 p.m., according to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department. When officers arrived, they found a woman on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper body.

Long Beach Fire Department paramedics were called, and they declared the woman dead at the scene. She was identified as Samantha Hollins, 31, Long Beach.

No motive for the shooting has been discovered, and the investigation is continuing.
