Beachgoers flagged down authorities after finding a body that washed onto shore in Long Beach on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Lifeguards patrolling in the area of 55th Place and Ocean Boulevard were contacted by people who had discovered the body at about 5:45 p.m., Long Beach Fire Department Capt. Jack Crabtree said. The person who died was found along the waterline of Belmont Shore's beach on the Alamitos Peninsula.
Coroner’s officials, as of Thursday morning, had not released the man’s identity, pending notification of his relatives, but did say he was in his 20s.
Authorities did not suspect foul play, Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy said. Coroner’s officials examined the man’s body, but had not officially determined his cause of death as of Thursday afternoon.
