Senior Police Partners

Senior Police Partners is a program that supplements Long Beach Police Department services by doing everything from conducting vacation checks to presenting education and awareness programs.

And the department would like to have some more senior volunteers.

So for the next two Saturdays, July 6 and 13, LBPD will host recruitment open houses at the East Division substation, 3800 E. Willow St.

It takes more than showing up, though. To qualify for the training, people must be at least 50 years old, have a valid California driver's license and vehicle insurance and basic computer and smart phone skills. Applicants must be able to volunteer at least 20 hours a month and allow a comprehensive background investigation, proving "good moral character."

The open houses are from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6 and 13. To RSVP or for more information, email or call 562-570-7212.
