A female bicyclist died after being hit by a vehicle in East Long Beach on Tuesday night.

The Long Beach Police Department was called at 7:17 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15, to the intersection of Bellflower Boulevard and Atherton Street in regards to the traffic collision.

According to investigators, a green 2002 Honda Odyssey was traveling south on Bellflower Boulevard on a green light and the bicyclist was traveling west on Atherton Street on the north side of the intersection. The bicyclist attempted to cross Bellflower Boulevard against a solid red light, just south of the crosswalk, and the Honda hit her.

The victim was a 50-year-old female resident of Long Beach. The driver of the Honda, a 19-year-old resident of Los Alamitos, stopped immediately, called 9-1-1 and attempted to render aid. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital, but she died that evening.
