Summertime is almost here.
For Belmont Shore, that means Second Street's monthly Stroll & Savor is back for plenty of restaurant bites and performances by local musicians.
"It's gotten a lot busier over the years," Dede Rossi, executive director at the Belmont Shore Business Association (BSBA), said. "We're even getting more musicians reaching out to us to play during the event, which means the sounds might be a little bit more diverse each day."
Stroll & Savor typically takes place around the third Wednesday and Thursday each summer month. This year's first event is happening next Wednesday, May 15, and Thursday, May 16.
And it's going to be a special one for the Shore, Rossi said.
Dogz Bar and Grill will be open for their first Stroll & Savor in two years. The restaurant closed for repairs after a flood damaged a large part of the building, and last summer, had to face another round of repairs after fire damage by arson.
Long Beach Fire officials said Wednesday that a third juvenile had been arrested in connecti…
"We're really excited to have Dogz back," Rossi said.
At Sushi, a new sushi bar located at Second Street and Claremont Avenue, will be open for business during the event. The restaurant opened its doors earlier this year.
The full list of vendors participating in next week's Stroll & Savor won't be available until tomorrow, Friday, but Rossi said that attendees can expect the usual wide variety of food and entertainment.
"At Stroll & Savor you can really do whatever you want," she said. "You can buy tasting tickets and try food from here and there, or you can sit inside or on the patio and order a full meal."
The point of Stroll & Savor is to bring people together, she added — and maybe introduce them to a new dish or two while they're on Second Street.
"That's how this all got started," she said. "More than 20 years ago, to bring people to Second Street and get the restaurants involved in an intimate community event."
The event was much smaller back then, Rossi recalled, with some Naples restaurants participating in the event as well. Today, restaurants on Second Street between Livingston Drive and Bay Shore Avenue participate in the festivities.
For people who want to try out the bites, tasting tickets can be purchased in booklets of 12 for $10 outside of Chase Bank, 5200 E. Second St., the day of the event. Advance tickets can be purchased at The Beach on 2nd Street, Blue Windows, La Strada, Salon Soma, Shore Business Center and Sweet Jill's Bakery. Tickets are good for both nights each month.
Stroll & Savor is happening from 5:30 to 9 p.m on Wednesday, May 15, and Thursday, May 16.
