Teacher John Webb has been named the Long Beach Yacht Club’s youth activities/aquatics director. Webb has been an elementary school teacher for 13 years and a Long Beach lifeguard for 20 years.

Drew Satariano, vice president of the Parks and Recreation Commission, was recently honored at Outstanding Park and Recreation Commissioner by the California Association of Parks and Recreation Commissioners and Board Members.

The Aquarium of the Pacific’s President and CEO, Dr. Jerry Schubel, has been appointed to the California Ocean Protection Council’s Science Advisory Team. The goal of the science advisory body is to ensure that the best available science is applied policy decisions made by the council.

Under the supervision of California State University, Long Beach Professor Teri Yamada, the Nou Hach Literary Project and its director Kho Taraith have been honored as this year’s winner of the Jeri Laber International Freedom to Publish Award. The Laber award is given to a book publisher outside the United States who has demonstrated courage and fortitude in the face of political persecution.

Jeanne Anne Carriere, a psychologist with the Long Beach Unified School District, has received the Nadine M. Lambert Outstanding School Psychologist Award for her work from the California Association of School Psychologists.

Liz Minor was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Long Beach Area Council of Camp Fire USA. Minor’s extensive work at Camp Fire includes serving as Council Training Director and leading Long Beach’s first co-ed Camp Fire group. She serves on the Council Board of Directors.

Brad Miles, Keith Muirhead and Ross Riddle were recently appointed to the board of the Community Hospital of Long Beach. Miles is the vice president of INCO and a member of the Long Beach Commercial Real Estate Council. Muirhead is a partner at Equity Brokers Realty and a member of the Naples Improvement Association. Riddle is president and CEO of South Coast Shingle/A-1 Building Material and serves on the board of the Roofing Contractors Association of Southern California.
