Want to go on a culinary adventure?
That’s what Long Beach’s first-ever Dishcrawl promises to be on Tuesday, March 12, as foodies taste their way through various dishes at four different restaurants downtown.
Organized by Dishcrawl’s Long Beach Ambassador Jessica Lim, the event will start at Alegria Cocina Latina on Pine Avenue and continue to three other “surprise” restaurants within walking distance from there. Tickets are $45 and seats are available for 25 to 40 people.
“Our mission is to get locals to come out and try new foods, and we want local restaurants to get their food out to new customers,” Lim, 22, said. “We want to do one Dishcrawl every month in Long Beach in different business districts.”
Lim works for San Francisco-based Dishcrawl, where CEO and founder Tracy Lee started organizing similar events among friends three years ago. Lee began opening up the events to the public and said she quickly found out that she could turn the idea into a full time business. She said the event is all about good food and good company.
“It is a simple concept, but it brings people together and helps the community and local businesses,” Lee said. “It has been fun to watch this idea spread across the U.S. and Canada — we now have 100 ambassadors in 100 cities.”
During the Dishcrawls, participants meet local chefs, hear stories about the food, and have a unique opportunity to try four different restaurants in one night.
The first restaurant location is revealed before the event, but Lee said she has learned not to disclose the names of the next three destinations because most of the participants enjoy being surprised.
“Not knowing is part of the fun,” she explained. “The participants just have to say, ‘Take me wherever, I trust you.’ People get excited about the surprise element.”
The Dishcrawl starts at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12. Tickets must be purchased in advance at dishcrawl.com/longbeach. Space is limited.
