National Women’s Health Week ends May 17, and Dental Health Services, a Long Beach-based company, is offering the chance to win a Nordic Track Elliptical exercise machine to those who participate. National Women’s Health week is a nationwide series of activities designed to raise awareness about women’s health issues. Miller Children’s Hospital will be the beneficiary of a five-course dinner and Italian wine pairing starting at 6:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday, May 15), at the Sky Room, 40 S. Pine Ave.

This year’s edition of Jewels of the Night is this Saturday, May 17. “Motown at the Beach” features live and silent auctions, fine food and music by Stone Soul. The annual fundraiser at the Walter Pyramid supports athletics at California State University, Long Beach. Tickets are $100 per person. A Spring Garden Party is the theme of a fundraiser for Friends of Languages from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at the Bembridge House, 953 Park Circle. Friends is an Associate Group of the Long Beach City College Foundation that offers scholarships for the study of foreign languages or English as a second language. Emerson Parkside Academy Charter School is having a Fitness Day from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the school, 2625 Josie Ave. The event includes a student walk/jog-a-thon, an opportunity drawing and a parent teacher fun-run. “A Taste of Seal Beach” is set for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at McGaugh Elementary School, 1798 Bolsa Ave. in Seal Beach. Tickets are $10 ($5 for children). More than 20 food establishments will participate. The event is sponsored by Project SEEK, which helps support the school with financial donations throughout the year.

During Labor Day Weekend (May 23-26), Sunshine on 2nd will be participating the Crocs Recycle Program. The program recycles worn shoes into new shoes for people in need and they also match sales of each pair of new shoes by giving a pair to someone in need. Bring your worn Crocs to the store and receive a 25 per cent discount off a new pair. Sunshine on 2nd is at 4718 E. Second St.

Sponsors are being sought for the Most Inspiring Students Awards Dinner on Thursday, May 29, at the Long Beach Hilton Hotel. The students are from the Long Beach Unified School District and the event is presented by the Long Beach Education Foundation. Enjoy an evening of fun and entertainment at the Benefit for the Animals, beginning at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 29, at the Long Beach Playhouse. The event raises money for the Friends of Long Beach Animals programs. A live performance by Lickerish will highlight a fundraiser from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Viento y Agua Café, 4007 E. Fourth St. There is a $10 cover charge. The annual Community Hospital of Long Beach golf tournament on is June 6 at Recreation Park Golf Course. “Late Nite Catechism” will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, at St. Hedwig Church, 11482 Los Alamitos Blvd. in Los Alamitos. The Aquarium of the Pacific will celebrate its 10th anniversary with its Ocean Conservation Awards Gala, a black-tie fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14 at the aquarium, 100 Aquarium Way. The aquarium anticipates honoring Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for his environment leadership and Conrad Lautenbacher, Jr., the administrator of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for his on the interaction among the ocean, the environment and the atmosphere. The Salvation Army hosts its annual golf outing beginning with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 20, at El Dorado Park Golf Course. The event concludes with an awards banquet in the evening.
