Taste of Downtown

Two Taste of Downtown attendees enjoy conversation last year while sampling the fare.

Everyone likes a taste — at least that's the premise behind the Taste of Downtown series, which returns next week starting at the East Village.

This is the 12th year for the Downtown Long Beach Alliance-sponsored event, which offers visitors a taste of several restaurants' specialities in return for tasting tickets. It is patterned after the long-popular Stroll and Savor summer event in Belmont Shore each month.

The East Village party, from 6 to 10 p.m. next Wednesday and Thursday, May 29 and 30, is centered at the First Avenue and Linden Street intersection. Entertainment is provided by Manuel The Band, and the bar is provided by the Latin-themed restaurant Padre.

So far, participating eateries include Berlin Bistro, Gladstone’s, Auld Dubliner, Q Smokehouse, Promenade Cafe (Queen Mary), District Wine, Modica’s, Padre, Beachwood BBQ, Burger IM, Pie Bar, Romeo Chocolates, Ladie Kakes, Village Grind and LB Taco Company.

Tickets are $1 each, but if purchased in advance, an extra four tickets is available for each $20 purchased. Tickets are good all summer, and can be purchased at the DLBA office, 100 W. Broadway, Suite 120, or online at http://bit.ly/TODEV19.

The next Taste of Downtown will be at Pine Avenue and the Promenade June 26-27. The  summer finale is at the waterfront Aug. 28-29.
