Irvins at Grape Expectations

Jack and Barbara Irvin, right, receive the Durnin Family Award Saturday at the Long Beach Library Foundation's Grape Expectations event. Long Beach Rotary was given the Library Leadership Award.

Books, wine and fine food seem to go together, especially as summer arrives.

That's the premise of the Long Beach Library Foundation's fundraiser, Grape Expectations, and it works. The 16th edition of the gala will take place Sunday, June 9, at the Museum of Latin American Art.

Books are a big part of the silent auction that takes place during the reception and wine tasting beginning at 5 p.m. Then it's on to a four-course gourmet dinner with wine pairings by expert Randy Kemner, proprietor of The Wine Country store.

A live auction will add to foundation coffers to support Family Learning Centers, makerspace studios and other operations at Long Beach's libraries.

Victor and Patricia McCarty will be honored with the Durnin Family Award and Marathon Petroleum Corporation will receive the Library Leadership Award.

Space is limited, and RSVPs are requested by Friday, May 31. Tickets are $250 a person. Go to LBPLfoundation.org/grapes or call 562-628-2441.
