Long Beach's arts council and its port will partner again this year to help photographers create art.
It is the seventh year for the Port of Long Beach PHOTO program. The event has filled quickly in the past, largely due to the draw of a twilight cruise through the port's inner passageways for picture-taking opportunities seldom available to most photographers.
There are three parts to the program. A half-day orientation with the port's professional photographers takes place Saturday, July 13. The PHOTO tour is the following Saturday, July 20. The the Arts Council of Long Beach will mount a gallery exhibition of photographic winners during Long Beach Arts Month in October, with a reception and awards on Oct. 3.
Only first-timers will be eligible to participate, and they will be chosen through a lottery system. Entry into the lottery will open at 8 a.m. Thursday, June 27, and run to 8 p.m. the same day. Go to polb.com/photoprogram to sign up.
To participate, a digital SLR camera is mandatory and people must be 18 or older. Orientation attendance is mandatory in order to go on the tour.
