Long Beach is invited to soak up the summer sun on the waterfront with Alfredo's Beach Club.
The family-owned event planning company, known for its beach rentals, burger shacks and ever evolving summer events lineup, is hosting another season of free film showings and activities for the public to take part in.
And just like every other summer, the events kick off with free Moonlight Movies on the Beach.
The family-friendly Moonlight Movies on the Beach is getting the show started after Memorial Day. Guests can bring folding chairs, blankets and picnic dinners to the beach.
Alfredo's offers movie showings at Granada Beach (5101 E, Ocean Blvd.), Cherry Beach (1 Junipero Ave.) and Alamitos Beach (802 E. Ocean Blvd.) and run during select Tuesdays and Thursdays. The schedule had not been set by deadline for this publication; go to www.alfredosbeachclub.com for details.
Crowds of up to 50,000 people are expected to visit Shoreline Aquatic Park for a weekend of swashbuckling fun, treasure hunting and people watching June 29-30. And it's still free to attend.
It's Alfredo's 12th Annual Pirate Invasion of Long Beach and Mermaid Festival.
Guests can show up in their pirate best and participate in a number of swashbuckling activities, including sword fights, musket battles and treasure hunts. For people in costume, there will be contests for adults and children and a treasure trove of prizes for the winners. Pirates of the Caribbean set actors also will be dressed up and playing the part.
Parking is available at the Queen Mary hotel parking lot for $18 (day parking) and $22 (overnight parking). Shuttles will be available to bring people to Shoreline Aquatic Park.
The 12th Annual Pirate Invasion of Long Beach and Mermaid Festival is happening from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 29-30, at Shoreline Aquatic Park, 200 Aquarium Way.
Admission to the event is free. Food and drinks will be for sale on site. For more information, go to pirateinvasionlongbeach.com.
Love Long Beach Festival
Yoga, sound healing, arts and community blend together for the seventh annual Love Long Beach Festival at the end of July.
The event is a two-day gathering of holistic togetherness at Shoreline Aquatic Park. Guests can come together for a weekend of self care, participate in art or yoga classes and enjoy the warm weather with good food and company.
It also features two music stages and a VIP bar lounge with individual DJs. Staying hydrated is a necessity and water bars will be accessible for guests to keep cool.
Tickets are $10 for a day pass and $20 for a weekend pass. Tickets for an after party taking place from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Sunday (after the main event), is an additional $10.
The Love Long Beach Festival is from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, and Sunday, July 28, at Shoreline Aquatic Park, 200 Aquarium Way.

Kids' Fishing Rodeo
Children 16 years and younger can try to tackle a fish or two at the 66th annual Kids' Fishing Rodeo, rounding off the last of Alfredo's summer events.
The free event teaches young Long Beachers and friends to cast a line, and hopefully reel in a prize.
All participants must bring their own fishing rod and tackle. Bait will be provided, as well as instructions for the competition. Lucky winners will receive prizes.
The Kids' Fishing Rodeo will take place from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier, 15 39th Place.
