Halloween Events Include All Types Of Frightening Fun

This year there are Halloween events for all ages (and species—the ever-popular dog costume contest is back) and things are happening all week leading up to the big night.
Get an early start on Halloween at the Community Development YMCA’s haunted house. It’s open 5 to 8 p.m. tonight (Monday) through Friday, Oct. 30 at 525 E. Seventh St. Everyone is welcome but the house is geared for ages 5-15..
Forest Lawn Long Beach hosts its annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Forest Lawn, 1500 East San Antonio Dr. Children will be supplied with a pumpkin and crayons to use to decorate it. There will be prizes in various age groups and a costume contest with prizes as well. Admission is free.
Drink specials, a costume contest and music are part of the Halloween Vampire party starting at 9 p.m. Wed., Oct. 28, at the Liquid Lounge, 3522 E. Anaheim St. Call 494-7564.
Bono’s hosts a masquerade party from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. The price of $39 includes a buffet. Bono’s is at 4901 E. Second St. Call 434-9501.
It’s a Halloween wine tasting from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at La Traviata, 301 Cedar Ave. The price is $49.95. For reservations, call 432-8022.
There will be a “Hulaween” costume party with a $300 first prize at the Mai Tai bar. Register by 11 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Mai Tai bar, 97 Aquarium Way in the Pike.
The Zombie Walk returns to Retro Row starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at the Portfolio Coffee House, 2300 E. Fourth St. After everyone has assembled, the zombies will head up Fourth Street to the Art Theatre for a midnight showing of the original George A. Romero version of “Night of the Living Dead.”
Other Retro Row activities that night as part of its monthly art walk include complimentary kiddie zombie makeup from 4 to 10:30 p.m. at Lil Devils Boutique, 2218 E. Fourth St. and an album release party for Korey Dane starting at 8 p.m. at open, 2226 E. Fourth St.
This year’s Soroptimist fundraiser is the Monster Bash, starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at the Grand, 4101 E. Willow St. In addition to holiday boutique items, there will be dinner, skeletons, ghouls, witches, a costume contest and live music by Shake and the Chantoosies. Tickets are $75. Then from 8 to 11 p.m., for middle school and high school students, there will be a monster mash dance party with a haunted house, games and pizza for $5.
It’s Treasures and Treats for the whole family from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Halloween night at Cornerstone Church, 1000 N. Studebaker Rd. There will be candy, games, bounce fun, a Velcro wall and gospel message. The event is free and dinner will be available for a small fee.
