The 2008-09 officers for the Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride, Inc. have been announced. They are: Julie Brown and Sergio Macias, co-presidents; Linda Ortiz, vice president of administration; Bob Crow, vice president of festival; Ken Davis, vice president of production; Frank Rubio, vice president of entertainment; Joseph Olney, treasurer; and Betsy Holmes, secretary. The board of directors are: Tracy Ann Bell, Mikey Davis, Dick Grugett, Freddie Herrera, Darleen Ojeda, Marianne Thayer and Eric Valdez.
The 2008-09 board of directors for Long Beach Heritage also have been announced, and they are: John Thomas, president and vice president for advocacy; Stan Poe, vice president for education; Maureen Neeley vice president for membership development; Diana Jordan, vice president for fund development; Melinda Rooney, vice president for public awareness; Charlotte Mitchell, vice president for Bembridge House; Cheryl Perry, treasurer; and Bobbi Burket, secretary. Area resident, Gregorio Luke, was one of the five recipients of the 2008 Local Hero of the Year Award, an award given out in honor of National Hispanic Heritage month by KCET and Union Bank.
Area physician, Dr. Elisa Nicholas, was honored for her efforts to improve air quality at the 2008 Clean Air Awards, hosted by the South Coast Air Quality Management District. Nicholas helped to establish the Long Beach Alliance for Children with Asthma, a grassroots organization devoted to raising awareness about the condition.
Area resident Ken Robinson has been appointed CFO of Mercury Air Group, Inc. Most recently, Robinson was chief accounting officer and corporate controller of Commerce Energy.
Barbara A. Goldsmith has become a part of the industrial team at GVA Charles Dunn. There, Goldsmith will work as an associate in brokerage services.
Public relations executive Paul A. Haney will join strategic communications and public affairs firm Englander and Associates as a partner in November. Haney previously was deputy executive director of Los Angeles World Airports.
Sixteen members have been installed into the Junior League of Long Beach’s fall 2008 class. They are Christie Bettendorf, Crystal Brooker, Tania Cardosa, Barbi Gorrell, Meghan Guggenheim, Sydney Herwer, Kristel Horne, Amy Jennings, Laura Keisler, Audrey Lickhart, Tiffany Mulhall, Denae Oatey, Darcy Riley, Karissa Selvester, Summer Ugale and Bridget Valeri.
Vanessa Valencia has been promoted to the position of senior stylist at Bella Salon. Valencia recently completed training at Bumble and Bumble in New York City and is a network educator with that product line.
Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney John Allen has been elected president of the Long Beach Board of Water Commissioners. He will serve in this position until September 2009.
Assistant City Prosecutor Sharon Panian received the Betty Fisher Law Enforcement Award from the Los Angeles Domestic Violence Council late October. The award was given to Panian at the Annual Domestic Violence Prevention/Intervention Award Ceremony.
Real Estate Southern California has named Kimberly Brown, managing director of JRT Realty Group, Inc., as one of its top 40 women of influence in the area. The Long Beach resident also serves on the executive board of the Women’s Shelter of Long Beach and volunteers with the Girl Scouts of America, among other philanthropic activities.
The St. Mary Medical Center has a new vice president of business and physician development — Carla Glaze. Glaze comes to the medical center with 11 years of experience in hospital administration, working with Tenet Healthcare and at the Robert F. Kennedy Medical Center in Hawthorne.
