Computer Animation Aids Promo Videos

Lucinda McNary is just getting to know the city of Long Beach — through three-dimensional animation.
The Kansas City-based artist recently released two videos promoting the city’s 2nd Saturday Art Walk in the East Village Arts District as well as women-owned businesses on Linden Avenue after being commissioned by Karen Nielsen of www.theprimespot.com, a Web site covering local music, art and entertainment. McNary said she gathered support and ideas from local artists to best represent the area.
“I did it all and got all the buildings in the right spot with Google maps,” she said.
The “Ladies Of Linden” film lasts about five minutes and chronicles female business owners as they make stops at their galleries and stores, while nearby a production crew works on a scene from “CSI Miami.” Meanwhile, an Art Walk video features music by several musicians and scenes from Gallery Eleven Seven. Both pieces now have made their way to the World Wide Web.
“Karen had the idea because she loves the East Village and Long Beach; she’s the kind of person who wants to promote and help people,” McNary said.
Videos feature images derived from photographs that McNary collected as part of her production process. She used technology from a free movie-making package provided by the United Kingdom-based Moviestorm Web site.
“It uses game engine and Java technology similar to the Sims game,” she said. “Moviestorm sets up your puppets and you can customize the animation and set, then film it within the program using the camera tool.”
McNary, who until recently said she didn’t know she would become interested in creating movies, used both drawing and photo editing skills to create the images in her videos. Since first discovering her passion for three-dimensional films, she has completed about 30 movies, she said. In exchange for such services, McNary asks clients to either pay varying fees or play her movies at venues.
“I never thought I wanted to make movies, but I’m an artist and a writer,” she said. “It intrigued me and combined my love of art, acting and music into one.”

This midwestern housewife is addicted to making movies!
Check out "Gone" and especially "Words" which is based on a true story and probably swayed a few votes.
Also, McNary writes her own stuff although "Talkin' Turkey", "Ruined Christmas" and the Halloween movies were written by David Z, a fellow Long Beacher! "
